A former Hartpury College footballer has signed a professional contract for American men’s soccer club, St Louis CITY2 in Missouri. Seth Antwi, a former Level 3 Extended Diploma Sport (Performance and Excellence) Football student, is one of six players signed ahead of the 2024 Major League Soccer (MLS) NEXT Pro Season, with a club option for 2025.

Hailing from Kumasi in Ghana, Seth came to Hartpury in 2017 through the Right to Dream Academy - a Ghana-based youth association football academy dedicated to nurturing talents and providing opportunities for young people to pursue their dreams and education on and off the pitch.

During his time at Hartpury College, he played a key role as part of the Hartpury Football Academy before moving to the United States to study at the University of Dayton, Ohio where he further developed his education and football skills. He spent four seasons playing for the Dayton Flyers, before spending the last year at High Point University where he earned accolades including the Big South First Team and Big South Defensive Player of the Week after posting three goals and one assist. He also spurred the team to a Big South Conference Championship, winning tournament MVP and All-Tournament Team honours in the process.

Speaking about his time at Hartpury, Seth said: “Hartpury College most definitely helped to build my football confidence. I think it was one of the most significant times in my life. The teachers and coaches were everything to me. I learnt a lot from them and remember every bit of advice I got from the classroom. A great programme that shaped a lot of things in my life and I’m forever grateful. Hopefully, one of these days I will go back to show my gratitude”.

Christopher Knowles, Senior Hartpury Football Academy Manager added: “We’re all delighted for Seth and how he has progressed. He’s always been a great character who was receptive to learning and keen to progress. He was always a player with a keen eye for a pass and a strong presence on the pitch. He played a pivotal role across our college and university programme whilst studying, competing well against our senior players and always holding his own. In his time with us, he helped us through to a national final and left a great impression on all staff. We wish him all the best for the future and will be watching and supporting him along the way.”

Hartpury University and Hartpury College’s commitment to supporting talented players like Seth has solidified its reputation as a leading institution for sports education and talent. The dual career pathway allows students to train and compete in a variety of sports, whilst studying for qualifications including A-levels, diplomas and degrees and more.

The college’s state-of-the-art facilities, expert coaching staff and well-established sports academies have created a powerful ecosystem for aspiring sports stars to flourish.
